Ozark Dominates Greenwood at Cooper 1

September 30, 2014

The Tigers wasted little time Tuesday in dismantling Greenwood HS in an away game at Cooper 1.  Following a quick start by Greenwood, which put them up 1-0 in the 3rd min, the Tigers turned on the effort gaining 5 unanswered shots on goal.  The game was equalized in the 15th min off a header from Sophomore Carter Burgess.   Junior Mason Shelor put the Tigers in the lead at the 17th min and things continued to fall their way following.   Senior Hunter Wallace took it to 3-1 after sending a floating ball through the Greenwood backfield.  Junior Bailey Williams challenged for the ball, causing a collision between the Greenwood GK and defender, while the deflected through ball rolled in.   The opportunities continued for the Tigers with Shelor adding another at the 36 minute.   Less than a minute later, Williams would send a dangerous ball into the box.   Sophomore Keaton Amstutz streaked by the Greenwood defender to glace a clinical header just above the keepers reach making it 5-0.  Wallace would make it 6-1 just before the half.   The Tigers managed to keep things under control during the second half while several upcoming stars were able to get some valuable varsity minutes before ending the match at 6-3.  The Tigers face Cassville HS this Thursday at Tiger Stadium.   JV will only play 1 half, Varsity will start at approximately 6pm.

Ozark Goes 1-2 at Rolla Invitational

The Tigers returned to the Rolla Invitational this past weekend to face Class 2 Powerhouse, Southern Boone County.  The Tigers played very well against a very strong team, managing 8 shots on goal and 3 corner kicks to SoBoCo’s 12 shots on goal.   The match ended 5-0, although the efforts on the pitch reflected a much closer game.

Saturday, the Tigers dropped a saddening one to host Rolla, 3-2 after controlling 80 minutes of the game.   The Tigers outshot the Bulldogs 16 to 6, but failed to get a handled defensively on the long throwings, which netted Rolla both second half goals.  The afternoon match against Battle HS, the Tigers stepped things up, taking the match 3-1.  A last minute attack by Battle took away the shut out, and the Tigers deserving second place finish!!

Ozark Takes First Loss Against Falcons

August 28, 2014

The Tigers were dealt their first tough loss of the season in a close matchup with Springfield power, Glendale HS.   The match started well for the tigers, with playing going both ways.   Glendale managed to control the possession early in the match until the Tigers settled in, out performing the Falcons with 2 on goal attempts in the first 5 minutes of the game.   In the 5th minute, Junior Perry Spinabella knock home beautiful volley off an Eli Gonzalez corner kick to take the lead.   The tigers would hold the lead at 1-0 through the half with defensive efforts that minimized the Falcons offensive production.   Glendale came out strong in the second, making it difficult for the tigers to retain possession.  In the 52nd min, the Falcons would tie things up with a strong volley at the top of the box.   Four minutes later, Falcon forward Bobby Spence headed in the go ahead goal from a corner.  The Tigers continued to press the Falcon defense the final 15 minutes of the match, but were unable to find the net.
